Adelfa Marr was born in Dallas, Texas on October 8th, 1960. Her father, Alfonso Marr, was a Cuban immigrant who had come to the United States in the 1950s. Her mother, Maria Antonia Fernandez, was born in Spain and had also immigrated to the United States in the 1950s. Marr has three siblings: two sisters and one brother.
Marr grew up in Dallas and attended Catholic schools throughout her childhood. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1978 and then went on to study at Southern Methodist University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish literature. After college, she worked as a high school teacher for a couple of years before returning to SMU to earn her law degree.
