Albert began his martial arts training at the age of 5 under the guidance of his father, who was a 3rd degree black belt in Karate. At the age of 10, Albert received his black belt in Karate and began teaching self-defense classes to other children in his neighborhood. In 1984, Albert opened his own martial arts school called Cobra Kai.

Cobra Kai quickly became one of the most successful martial arts schools in New York City. Albert’s unique teaching methods and passion for martial arts inspired many students to achieve their black belts and become successful martial artists themselves. Cobra Kai also produced several championship fighting teams that competed against other schools in tournaments across the country.

In addition to running Cobra Kai, Albert also worked as a stunt coordinator and fight choreographer for film and television productions. Some of his most notable credits include The ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze (1991), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993), and The Expendables 2 (2012).

Albert Omstead passed away on March 8, 2018 at the age of 54. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and four grandchildren.
